"Flyboy is FAA certified insane" (flyboy396)

Reading this craigslist ad was all normal fare until I came to a part where he thinks there’s something wrong with the car.
“The cam had to have been changed as it is almost too large for a street car. Almost no bottom end and then it has rapid acceleration around 4000 RPM and up”
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I feel like he’s been around old muscle cars too long and really notices the lack of low end grunt on some of these older turbo cars.

“Had to have been changed” Did he put in another cam or not? We can only guess. English is not his strong suit.

I think that wording was used because he honestly doesn’t know

I agree. I don’t see many, but when I do they’re rarely over $4500

Actually, I have to disagree. “Had to have been changed” is perfectly valid grammatically. In fact, it’s kind of a surprisingly proper English for someone looking for a trade on Craigslist.

For sure.
...now to talk him down to $2,250 because of the cost of fixing the power issue it has in the lower RPMs

That's why I doubt the proper use. It implies a milder camshaft which wouldn't help the described symptons on a turbo engine.

I think he's saying that he thinks that the previous owner must have added an aftermarket camshaft, because it looks too large to be stock.

“Do you know how hard it is to find stock cams for these things?!"

I like how he specified that it was indeed not an SVO, or Thunderbird turbocoupe

It’s an alternate phrasing to “must have been changed”. Perfectly correct English. He’s speculating (probably wrongly) that someone before him put in a higher lift cam, because the power response is odd.

I think he believes the PO changed the cams.

I do believe these were off of some early nineties GM.

Yea if I didn’t have to sell my Crossfire before I can even think of another car I’d be going to take a look at this.
